I know this isn't about tone, but having a well-tuned guitar is incredibly important. I've played with enough guitarists with out-of-tune guitars and it's scary how many of them couldn't tell. I think a lot of it has to do with placing so many effects in the signal chain that they can't identify the original sound. First thing I've always suggested to them is to get a good chromatic tuner, at least a Boss TU-3.
The TC Electronic Polytune is the first tuner I've seen that's made me think about replacing my trusty Boss TU-2 (now replaced by the Boss TU-3). Well, ok, there have been a few others, such as the Peter Strobostomp but none have made me part with money yet. This may just achieve that.
I like the idea of strumming the open strings and having it identify each string that needs tweaking. That could be really useful.
