I like this wah pedal enough that I want to write about it on this site, it makes a change from amplifiers.
There are plenty of wah pedals on the market and the majority are endorsed by one guitar hero or another. That probably goes to show how little variation or innovation there is in the market, when the differentiating factor is the name stamped on the box and the pedal plate.
I've used two wah pedals for a while. My first was the Jim Dunlop Cry-Baby but I found a lot of issues with that. I'll document those issues in another article. So I went searching for a replacement and the Ibanez WD7 Weeping Demon Wah Pedal was what replaced the Cry-Baby for me.
You usually have two choices when you're looking for a wah pedal
That's my opinion and what I count as awful tone may be great tone for others. As a point of reference, the Cry Baby GCB-95 is a good starting point. A wah has to be more useful to me than that.

Unlike most wahs, this pedal has good tone and good configuration options. Ok, maybe it's wrong to talk about a wah pedal having good tone since it's essentially an eq/filter. And there we find one of the first options, you can change the level of the wah effect. That's useful for taking it from in-your-face to almost transparent. The Q and range functions are good for defining the sound of the wah. All that's on the outside of the pedal, no need to open it up and tweak inside.
The other useful tone function is the lo knob. This allows you to configure how much of the lower frequencies will pass through the pedal unaffected.
First of all, there's a big red LED at the top right. Very useful for knowing if it's on of off.
Secondly, you can choose from momentary and pressing-down for switching on or off. There's also an option for pressing the button on the side to switch on or off. Again that's useful.

Benefitting from Joe Satriani's years of experience and built to his specifications, the VOX Big Bad Wah is a dual-mode pedal with switchable access to two wah modes and unique features for a wide range of wah sounds. Satriani contributed numerous ideas that were unheard of in existing wah pedals, endowing the Big Bad Wah with an unparalleled range of sounds from vintage to modern, as well as controls so users can create their own unique sounds. Wah One faithfully replicates classic VOX wah sound, albeit hot-rodded to Joe's specs. Wah Two delivers all the wah-pedal know-how that Satriani has accumulated over many years, as well as the ability to customize your own wah sound. The Drive knob mimics the Wah 1 gain at its lowest setting; at its highest, it delivers a 10dB boost for aggressive, growling overtones. The Voice switch instantly takes you from traditional wah voicing to a dark, resonant tone reminiscent of a vintage talk box.The Big Bad Wah also allows you to select between a vintage, UK-style inductor, and the more modern USA style. Also features a custom pot designed specifically to Joe Satriani s specifications to deliver a smooth, musical tone throughout the entire sweep of the pedal.
