I like the look of this. I've never been a fan of the appearance of the retro-styled smaller guitars amplifiers such as those from Epiphone, Gretsch or Harley Benton, but I looked twice at the style of this amp. For once, there's a retro-style amp I wouldn't mind standing next to on stage.
So it's a small amp but it's not that quiet. Face it, 15W is too loud for turning up full at home, but looking closer and it has a pentode to triode option reducing the output to 5W. That's still loud at full volume, but getting closer to suitable levels for home.
The tubescreamer effect should be a standard pedal for almost everyone that plays electric guitar. If you don't have one, get one; they're that useful. But in this case, you can get a tubescreamer as a built-in effect in the amp. I can imagine the built-in tubescreamer being incredibly useful. There are plenty of occasions where I'd love to turn up with just guitar, lead, amp and cab; no effects, no pedal board. This amp could be the start of something interesting.
I use a modded BYOC overdrive, loosely based on a Tubescreamer. It's modded in the sense that I chose a combination of components from old and new tubescreamer designs to achieve the tone I wanted. Using this tube head, I'd still have to use my pedal to get that tone, but at least I have that option. And for the times when I've ran out of batteries, forgotten my wall-wart or more likely, when I just want an easy set-up, there's the built-in tubescreamer. Great.
Looks like the head comes on its own, without cab or pedal for switching. You can also get a half stack, but again I think the pedal is extra.
