What we say about the Engl Thunder 
I used to recommend the Engl Thunder combo as a good all-in-one amp. Actually, I've almost bought one a few times, I thought they were that good. If I had bought one, I'm sure I'd have enjoyed every minute with the amp. In fact, it's still on my list for checking when I want a combo amp for covering a variety of styles.
It is an awesome amp, but it's not in the top 10 amps now because the prices have risen drastically. I've stopped recommending it but solely because of the price. It's still as good an amp now as when I first tried one and every time I've played them since. The difference is that with the price hike, it's now in a different league and there are a lot of good guitar amps in that bracket.
Despite that, right now could be a good time to buy this combo, I know of at least one online retailer advertising this amp at a discounted price that's less than what it cost before the increase. That I could recommend!
It's a 3 channel combo providing clean, crunch and hi-gain. I tend to think of the Thunder as being a cut-down Powerballwith fewer controls for changing the eq per channel. I'm not convinced the lack of channel eq is that much of a problem. I've always found the Powerball sounds good with eq controls set to 12 o'clock. So the main concern would be to be able to balance the channel volumes. Another option is the Engl Screamer which sits between the Engl Thunder and the Engl Powerball in functionality and flexibility.

Compared to the Thunder REVERB, the DRIVE has an additional Crunch volume control, to give the guitarist access to all 3 channel volumes. A very punchy workhorse. Celestion® Vintage 30 speaker on board as well.
