The Best Guitar Equipment

This showcases the top-of-the-range in guitars, amplifiers and some accessories including effects and even straps. Some equipment has reached legendary status to the point that nothing else will suffice. It's that equipment that I started this list with, e.g. a Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster or a Gibson Les Paul Goldtop, especially 57 or 56 reissue. That's how the list started, then it grew into a list of guitars, amps and accessories that show the strengths of each manufacturer.

I would consider each item featured in this article to be a workhorse, used rather than stored away, enjoyed rather than collected.

Guitars

Most of these guitars are vintage re-issues, faithfully copying the originals in as many ways as possible but also having to constrain to today's reality. Those that aren't re-issues are endorsed by major guitarists, such as the John Petrucci or B.B. King models. Some are limited editions, most are custom-shop models. What they all have in common is that they have to have a certain factor that means they become sought after items whether for playing or collecting. Fortunately, most of these are in the price range that they should be played, not necessarily on stage, but hopefully they'll be played rather than living in storage.

Amplifiers

1. Fender '57 Twin-Amp Tweed Combo AmpThe Fender '57 Twin Tweed Combo Amp effectively reproduces the 1955-1957 edition's low-powered 5E8A circuit, which produces 40W into a pair of 12" Alnico-magnet speakers. Leather grained and supple beige Tolex covers the outside of the cabinet shell, and a palomino cream Tolexù accents the front grille. The matching grill cloth is a tri-tone brown and ox-blood color. Front "Plexi" panel and matching knobs are in a black and white color combination. The speaker cabinet is hand-built out of hardwood plywood, and finished in blonde Tolex with vintage blonde grille cloth and matching blonde Tolex band on the grille top. A comfortable padded leatherette strap handle, rugged chrome corners, and heavy-duty rubber feet make easy daily transport.
